On Valentines Day

Love is truly the rightful domain of mavenism and in deed and practice I have a rich past as a desperate romantic, existentialist. And I have some poetry to prove it.

But love for me has been very painful and destructive at times. (Once i applied for special consideration when sitting uni exams .. my justification was unrequited love.. and to this day I maintain it was justified)- you can laugh.

Love can come in many forms and manifest for multiple objests of affection, intimacy, crush, beloved... and simultaneously, too. I have learnt that much and I've learnt that I'm not strong enough to be immune to .. well myself... in the past... even now.

And as with anger and desire for vengence, sometimes, its best to take an antidote to this crazy and most voluptuous of passions. You can't deny these things but you can temper and sublimate. Appeal yourself for time, to time...

But were Romeo and Juliet preaching against love when they perished of their love? and Tristan and Isolde?

Our fears, our fate

We all have our separate stories.

I was just up reading when my 8 yr old boy came in ... sort of sleep walking. Must have done it blind down the hall.

The good stories can be harder to write about, harder to imagine, harder to actualize, to document.

One of the lyrics off Forget Yourself (Church) refers to something like the "flowers down the side of the house, the tiny wheels... so the future can begin". something like that.

Isn't that good? We can find our redemption through love for our children.. all children? What happens? They seem to grow up into adults. Different beings. Many a shadow of themselves as children.

I think of Nietzsche.. his principle of "amor fati".. to love what is necessary in things... I think he said it was his formulae for greatness in a human being... to want nothing to be different... to love what is necessary in things! A hard ask. An act of courage?
Amor fati. Kids have it? Yes and no. Then we grow up and all wanting to control things, to grow fearful, to lose self belief?

From Bacon's essay "Of Parents and Children" ..:
"The joys of parents are secrets; And so are their Griefs and Fears: They cannot utter the one; Nor they will not utter the other."

For a 410 yera old sentence ... it sort of explodes. I sense it, but I don't sort of understand it, not wholly.

As for our fears... we do what we can, ... but we can destroy ourselves with imaganings of what we fear.. like Hamlet?

I guess theists have their faith?
It's a cop out? can be .. c/f amor fati.

There's a beautiful new vid of Steve Kilbey and Martin Kennedy with a song called
All Is One. "directed by Autumn Andel .. combines animation and live action into an evocative and haunting video".

I think of Prospero relinquishing his staff, his powers, his daughter
(what a signing off for the bard.)
He knows how to leave the stage quietly... at the right time.

Creation Of A Dancing Star

As Nietzsche said:
One must have chaos in oneself to give birth to dancing star.

I was just thinking about this quote yesterday. It's so enlightening about great personality types, alluding to the passionate
yet restrained in formulation
yet dynamite in implication
but fundamentally uplifting in the optimism that there can be a human, transfomative power, dancing star, a meaning, a value if only aesthetic and it's all worth it ?... and the creator - although perhaps more flawed, vulnerable, less happy-happy-joy-joy, less "adjusted", less capable at dealing with urbanities - can be our space saviour and someone who brings meaning if only aesthetic to our overcrowded worlds.

Aestheic meaning? yea its romantic, existentialist, but this is the philosophy of feeling (chaos, dancing star, transfomative) and I reckon this is a good as any criteria for judging what is good, what is worthless...

I put the above on the Time Being comments... alluding to SK's inability to handle numbers, etc.
It's a great and courageous thing his blog where he documents his life.

Me, I think I'm more a mask man... I like to pretend I'm better than what I am
